This biography follows Leonard Nimoy from his childhood as the son of Russian immigrants in 1940s Boston to his work as an actor. Interested in theatre from childhood, he also loves photography and takes odd jobs to fund it. After moving to Hollywood, he works as an usher, soda jerk, and taxi driver before receiving a small film role. In 1965, Gene Roddenberry hires him to play Spock. Nimoy draws on his family’s immigrant experience to shape Spock as an outsider, and the book also traces the Vulcan hand greeting to a Jewish ritual he saw as a child.
