Everybody’s Book: The Story of the Sarajevo Haggadah
Linda Leopold Strauss
This true story follows a hand-painted and hand-lettered haggadah from a Jewish couple’s wedding gift in fourteenth-century Spain to its later life as the Sarajevo Haggadah. After the family fled the Inquisition, the book traveled through Italy and Bosnia and entered Sarajevo’s National Museum. Over centuries, people helped protect it from theft and destruction, including during World War II and the 1991 bombing of the museum. Its journey includes preservation across religious communities and times of war.
