In 1511 Rome, eleven-year-old Federico lives in the papal palace as a guarantee of his father’s loyalty to the Pope. Michelangelo is working on the Sistine Chapel ceiling, and Raphael seeks Federico’s help getting access to it. Federico befriends a cat emerging from a strange cabinet made by Leonardo da Vinci. The cabinet can move through time, drawing in Herbert Bother, a 1920s art dealer pursuing Raphael’s signature, and Bee, a twenty-first-century Italian American girl whose mothers are art historians.
