Twelve-year-old Nora finally meets the height requirement for the Cyclone roller coaster while visiting her cousin Riley at Coney Island. After the ride, Riley collapses because an undiagnosed medical condition has caused a stroke. As Riley receives intensive hospital care, Nora spends time waiting at the hospital and struggles to admit how guilty she feels about persuading Riley to ride. A counselor and another child familiar with hospital visits help Nora face the uncertainty surrounding Riley's condition.
