Counting Crows
Kathi Appelt, illustrated by Rob Dunlavey
This counting story follows crows arriving in groups of three to eat foods including chips and snails. The number of birds grows until twelve crows have gathered, while the objects they eat can be counted as well. A cat then appears and frightens the crows away in groups of three. As the birds leave, one crow’s polka-dotted scarf falls behind, and the cat ends up wearing it while dreaming of the meal that escaped.
