This book contrasts two natural philosophers, now called scientists, who used comparable tools to investigate very different subjects. Antoine van Leeuwenhoek examined drops of water at close range. Galileo Galilei directed his attention outward, toward the universe. Their paired approaches show one investigator studying a tiny nearby world while the other looks into space, despite their use of similar tools.
