Catching a Storyfish

Katheren, known as Keet, loves telling stories and moves with her African American family from Alabama to the North. After classmates tease her for her Southern accent, she stops speaking in class, though she continues telling stories at home and befriends her next-door neighbor, Allegra. When Keet’s grandfather has a stroke, she tells him a story every day while he recovers. Facing an oral school report, Keet eventually finds her voice again and understands it as shaped by her family, places, and stories.
