Bobcat Prowling
Maria Gianferrari, illustrated by Bagram Ibatoulline
Driven from the area where his mother lives, a young bobcat called Yearling travels through a snowy suburban landscape looking for territory of his own. A child notices his tracks crossing a front yard as he encounters places already claimed by other animals, including bobcats, a Canada lynx, and a coyote. In severe winter weather, he follows railroad tracks and eats birds from a feeder. By spring, Yearling has grown into Bobcat. On a residential street, he finds the body of an older bobcat, claims that animal’s range, and rests in his new home while two children sleep outside nearby.
