Padma looks forward to her neighborhood’s block-party potluck until she learns that her mother plans to bring lentil soup. She worries that her friends will prefer the pizza, hot dogs, and other foods they expect to find there. At the gathering, Padma tries to keep the soup out of view while she and her friends sample dishes including rice and beans, corn, egg rolls, and fish and chips. When Lily notices the soup, everyone discovers that they enjoy it. A lentil curry soup recipe follows the story.
