Bee Dance

Rick Chrustowski

A foraging honeybee searches for food and finds a prairie full of flowers. Back at the hive, the bee uses an interpretive dance to tell other bees where the field is and how far away it lies. A diagram explains this communication. The bees then collect nectar and pollen before the foragers return their gathered food to the hive at day’s end. Additional material gives a fuller account of how honeybees communicate.
