Apple and Rain

Fourteen-year-old Apple agrees to live with her mother, who returned after leaving years earlier and seems to understand Apple’s wish for independence. At her mother’s apartment, Apple discovers her ten-year-old half-sister, Rain, who has emotional difficulties and will not attend school. As their mother’s partying and financial problems worsen, Apple takes on increasing responsibility for Rain. Apple’s initial resentment of her sister changes as the two grow closer.
