Angela grows up near Snæfellsjökull, an ancient glacier in Iceland, and her father introduces her to it when she is a baby. Before she can walk, she rides on his back during hikes across snowfields to the glacier. As she grows, Angela climbs it herself, touching the ice, listening, and speaking to it. Later, school, homework, violin, soccer, and friends fill her days, and something in her heart feels wrong. Her father suggests returning to the glacier. An afterword addresses climate change’s threat to frozen places.
