Thirteen-year-old Sunny Nwazue continues training with the secret Leopard Society while living with her family in a Nigerian community of nonmagical Lambs. Nightmares and reports of environmental disasters convince her that the goddess Ekwensu threatens the world. An attack cuts Sunny off from her spirit face, Anyanwu, leaving her unsure of both her powers and her identity. After confronting unexpected events, including danger involving her brother, Sunny travels with Chichi, Orlu, and Sasha to seek the place where she can face Ekwensu.
