Aaalligator!
Judith Henderson, illustrated by Andrea Stegmaier
A boy frees a lonely alligator caught in a vine, and the two quickly become friends. The town mayor responds by forbidding alligators, even after the boy suggests that the hungry animal could help by eating everyone’s leftovers. The townspeople decide they like the alligator and bring food to him despite the mayor’s orders. As he grows larger, hiding him becomes harder, so the community works together on a solution. The story follows a creature seeking acceptance and a town that changes its mind.
