A Hungry Lion; or, A Dwindling Assortment of Animals
Lucy Ruth Cummins
A hungry lion appears with a growing group of animals, including a penguin, turtles, rabbits, mice, pigs, a sheep, a koala, a hen, and more. As the pages turn, animals begin to disappear, leaving a dwindling group around the lion. The narrator’s account encourages the suspicion that the lion has eaten them. Instead, the missing animals reappear at a party for the lion, complete with a large cake. When the lights go out, the story leaves another question hanging.
