Your Heart, My Sky: Love in a Time of Hunger

During a difficult period in Cuba when people face starvation, teenagers Liana and Amado meet through a stray dog. The two evade compulsory labor presented as voluntary while their relationship grows. Inspired by the author’s family history, the story takes place during Cuba’s Special Period in peacetime. Told in verse, it brings together hunger, oppression, a shared effort to escape labor, and love in a period of scarcity.
