Wishes and Wellingtons

Maeve Merritt boards at a strict London school for Upright Young Ladies, where she chafes against its rules. Sent to sort rubbish as punishment, she finds a sardine tin holding a bad-tempered djinni. The djinni resists accepting a schoolgirl as its master, but Maeve learns to use its powers. Her magical discovery draws pursuit from an orphan boy, a mysterious tall man, a school worker, and a business tycoon, sending Maeve into adventure through London.
