Ross is in seventh grade when he learns that he has a rare eye cancer. Daily radiation begins after school and brings changes to his appearance and vision that leave him embarrassed. At school, some classmates treat him with pity while others keep their distance; even his friend Isaac pulls away. Abby remains beside him, though her family is preparing to move. As cruel memes about Ross spread, he suspects a classmate but cannot prove it. Lessons with Frank, the radiology technician, make guitar and music a way for Ross to express what he is feeling.
