Where the Watermelons Grow

Twelve-year-old Della Kelly becomes frightened when her mother begins digging seeds from a watermelon at night and speaking to people no one else can see. Della fears the illness that once sent her mother to the hospital has returned. While her father struggles to save the farm and her mother denies what is happening, Della takes on family responsibilities and hopes to heal her mother. A loving rural community offers support, though no easy answer emerges.
