Ibtihaj Muhammad’s memoir begins with her school years, when she was among the only African American Muslims there and sought an athletic activity she could pursue while wearing hijab. Fencing becomes the sport through which she confronts exclusion and bigotry on the way to the United States Olympic team. The account credits faith, family support, dedicated training, and perseverance.
