When You Wish upon a Lantern

Liya and Kai, once close childhood friends, live in Chicago’s Chinatown. Their friendship frays as their fathers feud. When Liya learns that her family’s wishing-lantern shop is struggling, she revives a tradition she shared with her late grandmother: quietly carrying out wishes written on lanterns sent skyward. Creating a lantern festival to honor her grandmother helps Liya and Kai reconnect. Their story also follows their uncertainty about their feelings and their own wishes.
