Alvie Fitz does not feel that she fits in and has spent years dealing with medication, doctors, and social workers. She hopes to reach her eighteenth birthday without a major mishap so she can become legally emancipated rather than return to a group home. Alvie, a neuroatypical girl with a difficult past, connects with a chronically ill boy. Together, two adolescent orphans face severe family circumstances and reach toward love.
