Whale Eyes: A Memoir About Seeing and Being Seen

In this illustrated memoir, James Robinson describes living with anomalous retinal correspondence, a type of strabismus in which his eyes quickly alternate looking forward. He calls this “whale eyes.” Interactive page design shows how text can appear to move when he reads and how vision tests can seem not to align. At school, James pretends to read and faces classmates’ stares and extra time on exams. After being homeschooled by his mother, he thrives academically and develops an interest in documentary filmmaking.
