Seventeen-year-old Harper Scott has planned to become a professional ballerina, but that dream falls apart. Devastated, she takes a job as a research assistant and spends the winter at McMurdo, a United States science station in Antarctica near the South Pole. The change gives her distance from the future she expected and time to consider other possibilities.
