Mei plants a sunflower seed and observes the plant as it grows. She compares its changing height with parts of her own body: first her toes, then her knees, and later her waist. Through Mei’s ongoing observation, the book connects a garden’s growth with measurement and shows how a child can use familiar points of comparison to track a plant’s height over time.
