The Trouble in Me

In this autobiographical novel, fourteen-year-old Jack Gantos has recently moved to a new town. He idolizes Gary, the delinquent boy next door, and tries to remake himself in Gary’s image. The story follows the period when Jack begins going off course, a path that will later lead to a federal prison sentence for crimes recounted in his memoir Hole in My Life. His effort to imitate Gary brings both comic and intense consequences.
