Excited by the journey, the child cannot settle to sleep as the train moves through towns and villages. From the window, she thinks about peaceful places where she has slept before: her parents’ bed, a seaside hotel, a tent, and her mother’s old room at her grandparents’ home. Remembering these places gradually makes her sleepy.
