The Opposite Zoo
Il Sung Na
After the zoo closes for the evening, a curious monkey slips out to look around. On its nighttime route, the monkey encounters animals that illustrate contrasting qualities, including awake and asleep, hairy and bald, tall and short, and soft and prickly. Watercolor spreads place a range of zoo animals across the grounds, with the exploring monkey tucked into each scene. When morning arrives, it heads back to its enclosure. The ending revisits the animals as a zookeeper welcomes visitors for the day.
