The One and Only Rumi

This picture-book biography tells of the thirteenth-century poet Rumi, first known as Muhammad. He loves his home and the birdsong that greets each morning, while his father urges him to continue singing in both joyful and sad times. When Genghis Khan’s army forces the family to flee Afghanistan, Muhammad becomes a refugee. Along the way, he learns from the natural world, music, and inner journeys. The book connects these formative experiences with the poetry for which Rumi later became known and presents drawings touched with gold.
