The New Bicycle

Darcy Day Zoells’s The New Bicycle presents Mari’s home as ordinary and places her in an equally ordinary neighborhood. The text uses concise, lyrical language alongside elegant representational line drawings with watercolor. Clavis Publishing released the book in 2023. It earned the 2022 Gold Medal from the Key Colors Competition, a nationwide contest held every other year for children’s-book illustrators.
