Jin, a lion-cub stone guardian, would rather practice zuqiu than watch over humans. His father guards the Sacred Sphere, which keeps the universe in balance, but Jin follows the sphere when it rolls through the Old City Gate and becomes stranded in the human world. There he joins Lulu, a girl who hears the same unexplained voice, and a mustached worm claiming to be a dragon. Together, they race to reopen the gate before the guardians beyond it perish.
