The Boy and the Whale

A boy and his father find a whale caught in their only fishing net. The father fears losing the net, while the boy is troubled by the whale’s danger. He remembers being trapped in a net himself when he was younger and nearly drowning before his father rescued him. The boy decides to try to free the whale despite the risks and despite his father’s instructions. The story places his concern for the animal alongside the family’s dependence on the fishing net.
