Take Back the Block

Sixth grader Wes Henderson lives in Kensington Oaks, a predominantly Black neighborhood targeted by a developer offering to buy residents’ homes. The offers divide neighbors: some cannot afford to refuse, while others want homeowners to stand together. With a friend displaced by development and experience attending protests with his mother, Wes organizes a block party and connects with a local group as he links the conflict to a school social-justice project.
