Thirty years later, it stands between the towers when two airplanes strike them. The tree survives the collapse’s rubble, though most of it is destroyed. Green shoots are found in the ruins, and the tree is moved and replanted in good soil. Centering the tree’s experience, the book recounts survival after September 11 and the regrowth that follows devastation.
