Somewhere in the Unknown World: A Collective Refugee Memoir

Kao Kalia Yang, herself a Hmong refugee, gathers accounts of refugees now living in the Twin Cities. The people represented came from places including Syria, Bosnia, Thailand, and Liberia, and have rebuilt their lives after leaving what they held dear. Set against Minnesota’s unusually large refugee population, this collective memoir looks beyond headlines to consider who refugees are, how they live, and what they have lost. It centers resettlement, displacement, and the creation of home.
