Some Places More than Others

For her twelfth birthday, Amara visits Harlem, where her father grew up, stays with Grandpa Earl, and gets to know her cousins. Her mother asks Amara to help repair the twelve-year rift between her father and grandfather. Discovering that her father once wrote and performed poetry, and that Grandpa Earl pushed him toward athletics, makes Amara reconsider her own relationship with her mother. The trip brings family tensions and connections into view.
