Shell Song: Based on a True Family Story

Based on the author’s family history, this picture book tells of a Japanese immigrant grandfather in Hawai‘i during World War II. After he is imprisoned and separated from his family, the music and ocean he loved are no longer part of his daily life. During his long, lonely confinement, he searches for, labels, and carefully keeps tiny seashells. His collection passes to later generations, who remember him through the shells.
