After graduating high school, Piper Sail wants to become a detective in 1920s Chicago. Although her earlier investigation involved her missing best friend, society does not expect an eighteen-year-old woman to pursue such work. When a girl questions the ruling that her brother died by suicide, she asks Piper to investigate the possibility of murder. Piper takes up her notebook and enters the city’s mafia-controlled underworld in search of answers.
