Scythe

In a future where people no longer die from illness, injury, or old age, population control is assigned to Scythes, who select people to kill, or “glean.” Citra and Rowan are compelled to become apprentice Scythes, entering demanding physical and mental training while competing for one position. Their mentor believes Scythes should hate taking lives, but a powerful rival group embraces increasingly violent killing. The stakes rise when a new rule says that the winning apprentice’s first assignment will be to glean the other.
