Fifteen-year-old Cuban American Mariana Ruiz is pushed into public view when her father, a Florida senator, campaigns for president. She misses her privacy and begins to see a divide between the father she knows and the political candidate she watches. At school, Mari becomes involved with an activism club and learns about his support for a bill connected to sewage dumping in Florida’s main aquifer. With her community under a boil-water order, she must decide whether to join a protest walkout despite the personal and political consequences.
