Ten days after Jaya Mackenzie’s mother dies, winged humanoid Beings begin dropping from the sky, all apparently dead. Their arrival sparks public panic, media frenzies, and the rise of cults. Jaya’s own life is already complicated by her recent loss when she discovers that one fallen Being has survived.
