One Day in the Eucalyptus, Eucalyptus Tree
Daniel Bernstrom, illustrated by Brendan Wenzel
A snake swallows a boy, who responds by persuading the hungry creature to eat more animals. Each time, the boy encourages another bite, leaving the snake increasingly full. The snake finally eats a small piece of fruit containing a tiny fly, and the overfilled creature releases everyone it has swallowed. The story takes place in a eucalyptus tree and uses repeated phrases, rhyme, alliteration, and energetic action language as the boy finds a way out.
