Niños: Poems for the Lost Children of Chile
María José Ferrada
Niños contains 34 poems honoring children killed during Chile’s Pinochet regime, which lasted from 1973 to 1990. Each poem is a memorial for one child under fourteen, imagining ordinary parts of a child’s life: play, dreams, and listening to a mother’s voice. Delicate illustrations accompany the poems, while the closing pages provide each child’s full name and age. The collection is dedicated both to these children and to children living with political violence today.
