A young Cree boy travels north from the city with his grandfather, Moshom, to visit the trapline where Moshom spent his early years. After arriving near a Cree community, the grandfather remembers life there, including wintertime family routines and school, where he had to learn English and speak Swampy Cree in secret. They continue by motor boat to the trapline, where Moshom recalls his family’s tent, muskrat trapping, and the food and goods it provided.
