Love Is a Revolution

Nala, a 17-year-old Black, plus-sized girl, begins a romantic relationship and tells lies in an attempt to impress the boy she likes. Her first-person story follows what happens as those lies accumulate and as she confronts the need to value herself. The novel links Nala’s experiences of romance with her process of self-acceptance, emphasizing the difference between performing for someone else and loving herself first.
