Little Houses
Kevin Henkes
A young girl spends a beach visit with her grandparents, living in a small seaside house. Each morning, she and her grandmother search for shells, keeping only shells that are empty because living creatures use them as homes. The girl imagines the shells as rooms and wonders who once lived in them, as well as what lies beneath the ocean and why the water has so many colors. She brings several shells home, setting aside one favorite.
