This book by Zaila Avant-garde with Marti Dumas looks at the attention that followed Avant-garde’s win at the 2021 Scripps National Spelling Bee. The victory made her the competition’s first African American student champion and brought sudden public notice. Eight pages of previously unpublished photographs supplement the account. It was published by Random House Children’s Books in 2023.
