It Ain’t So Awful, Falafel

Eleven-year-old Zomorod Yousefzadeh, who calls herself Cindy, is originally from Iran and is growing up in Southern California during the late-1970s Iranian Revolution and hostage crisis. Her family’s move to Newport Beach makes her the new child in the neighborhood for the fourth time. Determined to leave behind her reputation as a brainy loner, she tries to make a fresh start under the name Cindy while facing cultural challenges and rising anti-Iranian sentiment.
