Claudia McCarthy is a history-loving student at the elite Imperial Day Academy in Los Angeles. She stutters and walks with a limp, and she never expected to hold authority at school. Yet Claudia is elected to student government and becomes drawn into its darker side over the course of high school. The novel follows the consequences of that involvement while asking whether power will change her. Claudia’s story brings together disability, school politics, leadership, and her interest in history.
