Green, a Black postal worker from Harlem, created the travel guide during segregation to help Black travelers find safer ways to move through the United States. The account places his work in the Jim Crow era and includes historical materials alongside illustrations. It follows the creation of a resource made in response to the dangers Black people faced while traveling.
